What They Say
The stage is Sapporo. Minare Koda finally makes her debut as a radio DJ with an amateur solo show in the dead of night, headed by an outrageous planned performance disguised as a broadcasting accident which leaves all of Hokkaido in awe. Just as all things in the universe are in constant flux, with this day as a turning point, Minare’s world gets turned upside down once again. At last, she gets a text from him…and dark clouds begin to form. Let us watch as Minare’s life continues to devolve into utter turmoil, shall we? A daring new series from the first-rate writings of Blade of the Immortal’s Hiroaki Samura!

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Minare may be about to become a radio personality, but things are far from rosy. She is living with a coworker in her studio apartment, only has a salary from her waitress job because her boss got hit by a car before he could fire her, and her radio spot airs at 3:30am and doesn’t pay much!

Luckily for Minare, her radio producer is having a blast using her as his experimental creative outlet so he isn’t going to ditch her anytime soon. Then her restaurant co-worker taking over for their boss loves her. He literally loves her, but as young men and women tend to do, Minare shrugs off his advances even though he would easily be the best thing to happen to her. He is stable, driven, and an honest man that would do anything to make Minare happy. Although, that would make this a short boring series.

At any rate, with things as they are Minare will manage to get by until her boss gets out of the hospital and remembers he wanted to fire her. If she still had the 500,000 Yen her ex-boyfriend swindled her out of she would be almost stable. Well, she could at least go back to living on her own and maybe even get her car out of hock.

Minare finally has her radio debut and since they don’t have a sponsor for her spot, her producer decides to do a war of the worlds style scripted segment where she pretends to be a scorned woman. She pretends to have just killed her useless boyfriend, which is easy for her to relate to, but then the script just ends. She is forced to ad-lib through the last few minutes of her segment and things get weird!

Even weirder, despite her name never being said on the radio, people start recognizing her. A group of guys come to her restaurant and call her out on her segment. Then the crazy thing is, her ex-boyfriend calls her asks if she will meet him because he heard her on the radio. Now, the real question is, should Minare use this opportunity to smear him across the airwaves or play nice?

In Summary:
On one hand, this second volume doesn’t have the same punch to it as the first volume. There was so much that happened in the first volume, that it was a whirlwind that was surprisingly well-written. This second volume slows down a little and I wasn’t going to give it as high a grade until everything went down between Minare and her scumbag ex-boyfriend. Samura handled that scenario so well it was amazing. I seriously went back and forth from loving Minare, to hating her, back to loving her all in the space of a single chapter. If Samura can keep things going at this pace, we are being treated to a great adult slice-of-life story.
