When friends have your back.Faith #9

Creative Staff:
Story: Jody Houser

Letterer: Dave Sharpe

What They Say:
Sometimes saving the world entails a little help from your friends. When a suspicious new intern comes to Zipline, asking questions about celeb columnist Faith Herbert, it’s up to her coworkers to help safeguard her secret identity as Summer Smith. Faith’s greatest power has always been inspiring others – see just how much she’s changed the lives of her new friends in this special one-shot story!

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
In the Zipline offices, new intern Anna Jenkins is introduced. She is also a big fan of Faith. Editor, Mimi reflects about the challenges and benefits for having a superhero work for her. She also has dreams of Faith being a goldmine for her.

Coworker, Paige, is good about covering for her when she needs to slip away to save the world, or foil a robbery. She not only distracts the intern, she fights side-by-side Paige, when the apocalypse needs to be diverted.

During lunch, the intern continues to interrogate the staff about what they know about Faith. Jay, another coworker, steps up to the plate and distracts the intern too when a fire breaks out and she is needed. The intern isn’t about to let go what the staff knows about Faith. Jay isn’t about to let his dear friend’s identity be found out though.

The intern turns out to be investigating Faith for Popcult Newz. She confronts Faith about her superhero identity by forcing it out of her with a gun pointed at her. Paige doesn’t hesitate and uses a taser on her. However, when the intern wakes up, they trick her into thinking Faith was just there and the police escort her out.

Faith apologizes for the mess she gets her coworkers in, but they all tell her they are more than coworkers. They are friends, even her boss. They knock off early and go out for some well-deserved drinks.

In Summary:
I still enjoyed this issue very much, but it wasn’t quite as exciting as the other issues. There were only a few little Easter eggs here and there, but the message about friendship was a nice one. It is a different type of super hero comic, and the fact that Faith has so many supportive friends who know about her identity is good change of pace.
