The show has managed to find some decent sweet spots so far and an episode focusing on a party with alcohol? The potential is certainly there to have fun with it. Under the guise of being an officers meeting within the Shinsengumi first, it turns to drinking more than anything else quickly and it’s fun to see who can handle their alcohol and the things that happen, including an amusing kiss. It’s a rapidfire series of events in all the right way with the gags rather than breaking it up in awkward ways and it has a cute bit with Serizawa toward the end that makes it seems like he’s definitely doing things the right way with the company he’s keeping.
In Summary:
While not a great episode, Chiruran ½ has an episode that definitely lets some of the characters personalities shine well as they cute loose under the alcohol. It’s utterly silly and filled with lots of little quick hits in how they interact with each other that make you grin and laugh just right. It’s empty and meaningless but it made me smile wide and that’s what I want from a two-minute episode of gag material like this.
