Nobunaga no Shinobi Episode 21“Someday I Want to Be the Shogun!!”

What They Say:
The year is 1555, the middle of the Warring States period, and one young man holds on to a very big dream. That young man, known as an empty-headed fool, is none other than Oda Nobunaga. Enchanted by his dream, a certain young girl who admires Nobunaga swears that she will become his ninja one day. Nobunaga has one goal: to unify Japan by military might! Decorated by a colorful cast of characters, including the airheaded Kichou, the errand boy Hideyoshi, the tsundere Nene, the straight man Mitsuhide, and the half-dead Hanbei, this heavy-hitting wartime gag anime is about to begin!!

With word that we’ll be getting more of this series come the spring that eases the fear of trying to “wrap things up” with just a few episodes left and instead just enjoy the silliness. This episode provides some focus on the younger brother of the former shogun, Ashikaga Yoshiaki. He’s an annoying type to be sure with what we get at the start but the details are solid that Chidori gets so she can ensure that she does things right for her master. She actually comes up with a decent plan to make him into the shogun and use him as a puppet that Nobunaga starts thinking about and that gives us some time seeing how things are playing out around Ashikaga that cements that his people are more likely to eliminate him more than anything else, though using him may be useful as well.

In Summary:
With things setting up for what’s to come our focus is mostly on Ashikaga so that we have an idea of what his personality is like. It’s not bad per se but he’s definitely annoying and the setup element of it feels a touch rushed. There are cute bits but there’s less of Chidori than I care for and Nobunaga as well. At least Kicho provides for some mild cuteness toward the end of it!
