When your friends are acting crazy…

An Invitation for this Knucklehead!

What they say:
After a traffic accident, Kazuma Sato’s disappointingly brief life was supposed to be over, but he wakes up to see a beautiful girl before him. She claims to be a goddess, Aqua, and asks if he would like to go to another world and bring only one thing with him. Kazuma decides to bring the goddess herself, and they are transported to a fantasy world filled with adventure, ruled by a demon king. Now Kazuma only wants to live in peace, but Aqua wants to solve many of this world’s problems, and the demon king will only turn a blind eye for so long…

Episode 7 of KonoSuba season 2 is, while not the most hilarious of the series, definitely one of the best at displaying the team dynamics between Kazuma and his dysfunctional harem—I mean, his teammates. The episode begins with an interesting turn of events. Kazuma and Aqua are acting calm, polite, and not shouting and screaming at each other. This freaks Megumin out. You might remember, but in the last episode, Megumin disappeared to Yunyun’s place because she had given Kazuma’s dick the name Excalibur, a name that she had dubbed by writing on his stomach. Therefore she has no idea what’s going on before returning home. Fortunately, Darkness is able to shed some light on what happened.

Awhile ago, Kazuma began working with Venir. He basically builds inventions that came from his world for Venir, who would in turn reproduce and sell them to the population in this world. The amount of money offered was extensive. This seems to have made him and Aqua very happy, which is why they are getting along so well. It’s all kinds of creepy.

What makes this episode so amazing is that each character is able to shine, both individually and as part of the group, despite not a whole lot happening. They’re just going through their daily life. The interesting aspect comes from the fact that for the first half of this episode, it appears like everything is going their way. Of course, since everything is going their way, it’s only natural that shits going to eventually hit the fan, which becomes obvious when the calm, beautiful music plays in the background after Kazuma and the gang set off for the hot springs.

Another interesting aspect of the episode is that Wiz is coming along. She’s a lich and one of the Demon King’s generals who set up the barrier. She isn’t evil, though. Wiz is actually a sweetheart. We never see much of her because she’s a side character, so up to now we only know a bit about her disposition, but it looks like we’re going to see more of her in the next episode. Also, considering this is going to be a trip to the hot springs and Wiz has a breast circumference that’s as wide as Kazuma is tall, I imagine there’s going to be some awkward but hilarious fan service scenes.

In Summary:
I liked the episode overall, but it didn’t have a whole lot going on. While it did a great job of showing off the characters, this episode was mostly a set up for the next episode. It leaves me curious to see what will happen next. On a side, the artwork was really tacky in this episode, but it works incredibly well with the outrageous comedy and allows the characters to display a wide array of hilarious faces.

Grade: B+
