2 min read

black-butler-book-of-circus-crunchyroll-headerAnime Limited announced their acquisition of the third season of Black Butler with Book of Circus back in May 2016 and they’ve had a few dates for it since then. Initially looking at a fourth quarter release last year, it was set for a February 27th, 2017 release back in November. Now things look to be shifting again as it’s been bumped to a March 20th, 2017 release date. The bilingual set is getting a DVD edition and a collector’s edition Blu-ray.  The sets are priced at £29.99 and £59.99 respectively, though no details about the collector’s edition are out yet.

Check out our review of the series.

The series was directed by Noriyuki Abe based on the series composition by Hiroyuki Yoshino, who wrote most of the scripts. Mianko Shiba worked on the main character designs while Chisato Kawaguchi worked on the sub character designs and both of them served as the chief animation directors. It was animated by A-1 Pictures.

The Japanese cast includes Daisuke Ono as Sebastian Michaelis, Maaya Sakamoto as Ciel Phantomhive, Ayahi Takagaki as Doll, Mamoru Miyano as Joker, Nobuhiko Okamoto as Dagger, Takuma Terashima as Snake and Yuko Kaida as Beast. The English cast includes Brina Palencia as Ciel Phantomhive, J. Michael Tatum as Sebastian Michaelis, Matthew Mercer as Joker, Michael Sinterniklaas as Dagger, Mikaela Krantz as Doll, Spike Spencer as Snake and Tia Ballard as Beast.

Plot concept: Ciel and the demon butler Sebastian are summoned by the Queen to investigate multiple reports of missing children. When their underworld contacts reveal the disappearances increase when the mysterious Noah’s Ark Circus comes to town the demonic duo must impress an enigmatic ringmaster in order to go undercover as performers – to Sebastian’s delight and Ciel’s disgust. At the core of the circus is a troupe of unique performers from Dagger the knife thrower to Beast, the beautiful tiger tamer. All are connected by someone who changed their lives, someone who raised them from the gutters of London to the heights of the big top—but at a price.
