Crunchyroll Adds ‘Monster Strike’ Anime Streaming

monster-strike-crunchyroll-headerCrunchyroll has picked up another series that’s been going for a bit as part of the fall 2015 season with the addition of Monster Strike. The streaming service has the first six episodes live now with the seventh coming on Tuesday at 7pm ET and new episodes every week at the same time. The series is available worldwide for members outside of Japan and China. Episodes are about eight minutes each and it ran for fifty-one episodes, ending on December 3rd, 2016.

The series is based on the mobile game and social media mix of the same name that makes you about $4 million daily with twenty million players involved in the Japanese designed game. With a 3DS version in development for release later this year, an anime adaptation was a given.

The cast includes Kengo Kawanishi as Akira Kagetsuki, Juri Kimura as Minami Wakaba, Yūsuke Kobayashi as Ren Homura, Lynn as Aoi Mizusawa and Jun Fukushima as Oragon, the franchise’s mascot character.

Animated by Studio Hibari and Ultra Super Pictures, the show is directed by Kazuya Ichikawa based on the scripts from Jiro Ishii with Yoichi Kato.

Analyst reports previously pegged the property as being the next billion dollar mobile game, which is pretty impressive all around as their fourth quarter revenues at Mixi, producers of the game, was over $350 million, as it launched into began launches into Southeast Asia and the Chinese market.

Plot concept: The protagonist, Ren Homura, returns to the town of Kaminohara, where he once lived. But did he really live in this place before? A nagging feeling tugs at his memories. Meanwhile, a strange game is forcefully installed onto his smartphone – a game called Monster Strike. A gauntlet of battles await him. Through the fierce fighting, he pieces together his scattered memories while uncovering the truth of the game. He’s supported by his companions: Aoi Mizusawa, Akira Kagetsuki, and Minami Wakaba. Together they take a step into the unknown, unsuspecting of the secrets hidden below the surface…
