‘Aquaman’ Gets Theatrical Release Date

2 min read

Jason Momoa AquamannWe haven’t heard much about the upcoming live-action Aquaman film for a bit as there’s been movement behind the scenes with other DC Universe theatrical features from Warner Bros. going on. But that’s now changing a bit as the studio has set a formal premiere date for the film as they’re shooting for an October 5th, 2018 debut for the project.

The film is set to be directed by James Wan  and will star Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, and Willem Dafoe as Vulko

Wan recently described the film, saying, “I kind of don’t want to give too much away but know this: The spirit that I’m going for is like a classic sort of swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story…It’s ultimately a quest story in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Romancing the Stone.”

Wan also agreed to direct Sony’s recent acquisition of Robotech, which is in its early stages at this point. No details were provided about that other than saying he’s closed his deal to helm the production, which based on the timeline won’t happen until after production on Aquaman finishes.

Plot concept: The reluctant ruler of Atlantis, caught between a surface world constantly ravaging the sea and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt.
