Audio:
Kitty has provided for a bilingual release here since dubbed porn sells well to the casual market. The show has a fairly straightforward stereo mix done at 192 kbps which means it’s little more than dealing with the dialogue through a fairly center channel oriented mix. It’s not bad but it’s rare to have an adult show that actually showcases the audio much, especially since the story driven monster/violence pieces have disappeared over the years. With this show, the dialogue is clean and clear throughout and we had no problems with dropouts or distortions during regular playback.

Originally released in 2007, the transfer for this OVA series is presented in its original full frame aspect ratio. This is the kind of OVA series that almost seems like it’s working out of a cookie cutter factory as it features the fairly standard design for a show with this concept. Straightforward color palette, some basic background noise in some of it and a helping of aliasing during the various panning sequences. Toss in a little banding within the source material in areas such as hair or skin tone and you’ve got a show that looks like a lot of others. Kitty has a decent encode here with a good bitrate which helps smooth out some of the problems. Colors are generally strong and problem free and the look is pleasing even if it doesn’t stand out strongly.
Packaging:
Not too surprisingly, the cover design is one that plays up the school angle and child angle. The logo actually works rather well with the blocky nature and different colors to give it something of a younger feeling. The artwork itself has what is presumably an interpretation of the Keiko character as her blouse is apart and she’s playing with herself a bit. The background setting of a chalkboard with the other two characters names is a nice touch which brings it all together. The back cover plays up the school angle even more with all sorts of supplies spread about and all the pictures from the show framed by pencils of varying lengths. The summary runs through the basics, with yet another mis-spelled name as it lists Sae as Sai, while the remainder is filled out with the production information and a clear and concise technical grid. No insert is included nor is there a reversible cover.
Menu:
The menu design is similar to the front cover in that it uses the same logo, albeit more vibrant, and the blackboard wherein you have the menu selections along with a few other scribbles. It also features the same character from the cover but in a less provocative pose. The music is a little instrumental piece that’s surprisingly quiet and mellow but it works to soothe and relax while moving about. With nothing on the disc but the show itself and some trailers, menu navigation is simple and flawless. The disc correctly read our players’ language presets and played accordingly.

My Classmate’s Mother is a huge tease. Though it’s hard to say yet whether there really will be more, only two episodes have come out this year and the show on this volume ends on what is essentially a cliffhanger. It’s rather cruel since it introduces the possibility of either police action or having one lucky guy get it on with both the mother and the daughter. Then again, both women seem like nut jobs so there may not be too much incentive there. Sometimes hot sex is worth the danger, right?
The series revolves around three characters that are involved with each other in different ways. You have Keiko the mother and teacher at the academy where both her daughter Sae and another student named Jun attend. Jun has the hots for Keiko and is quite interested in going all the way with her. It’s more than just a physical attraction, though there is plenty of that, as he’s very much in love with her to the point where it’s really creepy. Keiko doesn’t want his affections but when he manages to overpower her slightly and starts taking advantage of her, she starts to lose control a bit and over time gives in. It doesn’t help that she sends really bad mixed signals that just encourages Jun all the more.
Keiko’s daughter Sae is very interested in Jun and spends her lonely nights getting off thinking about him. All of this would have gone well enough if not for the fact that Keiko has something of a breakdown over the whole affair and just ups and leaves one night. Jun takes the letter to Sae’s house and retells the sordid tale to her so that she can understand why her mother has left. Sae is disgusted and disturbed by all of this, mostly because her mother is, well, old. But she’s not disturbed enough to toss Jun out of the house but rather insists that he becomes her family now and lets her pleasure him. It doesn’t take long before the two really get into it but Jun isn’t really interested in her as a person. He’s really just killing time until Keiko comes back or he breaks down and heads off to find her out there.
While there are varying scenes with Jun and Keiko throughout the show, the bulk of the focus is on Sae’s attempts to win over Jun with her love by having sex with him constantly and doing whatever he wants. Not that he really wants anything but Keiko, but he is human and she’s a willing hot young girl that’s in front of him with big doe eyes. Sae’s overt sexual nature with him starts to spill over into other areas which causes him some grief and makes him nervous about the entire situation. How long it can last is what becomes the focus as his mind starts to stray more towards Keiko while Sae becomes more unhinged and desiring of his time and attention.
The strangeness of the plot is the only thing that gives this show its spark as it is otherwise a fairly straightforward piece. The character designs are average and the settings are more of the same as we’ve seen it all before. It does provide for some potential, as you have the hot mother aspect and the possibility of a threesome depending on how the relationships work out, but none of it actually comes to fruition over the course of the two episodes here. If anything, it all leads up to a big tease where it needs at least one more episode in order to have any real closure. We’re really just getting the first two of three acts here and are left wondering where it’s all going to go. Well, no, we’re left wondering where the big payoff sex scenes are. What’s here is decent enough, especially since Sae is very into sex, but beyond there it’s just sort of there.
In Summary:
My Classmate’s Mother is the kind of show that’s all about the potential but doesn’t know exactly how to get it from concept to reality in a smooth form. Much of the pacing and execution is either formulaic or poor which leads to dull moments where you’re more inclined to just stop the show instead of fast forwarding. The trio does have plenty to offer, and as much as I’m enjoying the hot mom concept, it’s Sae that really carries the show. With Keiko being vacant in more ways that one and Jun so transfixed on this older woman, it’s only her passion and energy that allows some of this to work. And even that’s hampered by her becoming unhinged along the way. If there is more of this then the payoff portion may help the show overall, but if this is all there is then it’s just another in a long line of shows that never got to tell its tale properly. There are thrills to be found but it’s not a disc full of payoff.
