What they say
Nozomi Kaminashi is a fantastic gymnast, and in order to help her family out of poverty, has decided instead to become a competitor in a new women-only sport, Keijo. A lucrative endeavor, Keijo is a popular gambling sport where female players stand on floating platform on the water and must push other players off by only using breasts and buttocks. Will Nozomi be able to make it big in the world of Keijo?

It’s the start of the first test to determine how much Nozomi and the others have learned. The first battle is between Miyata and Rokudou Rin, who are both outfighters—Keijo players whose primary “fighting style” is using speed to close the distance and overwhelm their opponents with a barrage of breast and butt attacks. I’ve got to hand it to Xebec. The tournament-style battle between these two was entertaining. Not only did it give off the same shounen anime feel as mainstream titles such as Naruto and Yu Yu Hakusho, but the sheer absurdity of two women fighting each other with nothing but their boobs and butts was hilarious.

Much of the battle felt exactly like an episode taken straight from the Chunin Exam arc in Naruto; the underdog, Miyata, faced off against the fastest outfighter in the west, Rin. While the two fought, each one used various techniques and abilities to try and gain the upper hand. Meanwhile, Nozomi and the others watched from the sidelines, and when something unique happened or a skill was used, one of them would explain how it worked—just like when a character from Naruto, who wasn’t fighting at that moment, explained the mechanics behind a technique after one of the characters who was fighting used it.

I honestly loved how much this reminded me of my favorite shounen series. If there was one thing that I didn’t like, it would be the pacing. I understand that this anime is only getting 12 episodes, but this episode combined three battles into a single 24-minute segment. The longest was the battle between Miyata and Rin, while the shortest was between Toyoguchi and some big muscular women. The last battle was between Kazane Aoba and Kusakai—the number 1 Keijo player in the school. While Toyoguchi’s battle wasn’t as important and could therefore be finished quickly, I feel like Aoba’s should have been longer to showcase not only her talent, but also the threat that Kusakai poses.

In Summary
Episode 4 is the strongest episode to have currently aired; it contained everything that a tournament-style shounen anime needs. We had the epic battle between the main supporting character and her rival, and we got to see a little bit of Aoba and Toyoguchi’s unique talents and abilities. I was amused by the “Scanning Hand” technique that Aoba uses, which somehow reminds me of the ocular-based Kekkei Genkai found in Naruto, such as the Sharingan and Byakugan. Even if I think the pacing was a bit off, the episode itself contained all the nostalgia of a shounen anime and combined it with the hilarity of an absurd concept.
