What They Say:
My Wife is the Student Council President, known in Japan as Okusama ga Seitokaicho! High school freshman Hayato Izumi’s hopes of becoming class president are dashed after losing to Ui Wakana, a beautiful girl who promises to lift all restrictions on campus romance. After the student council meeting, Ui arrives at Hayato’s home and announces that she will become his wife due to an agreement that their parents made during their childhood.

With a very fun first season that pushed a lot of buttons for a lot of folks but delighted me, the second season has finally arrived and in uncensored form once again. The opening season delivered well for me for the most part with the silliness of the situation to be sure but also just in going the distance with the sexuality and fanservice rather than playing coy. It wasn’t full on hentai but it definitely played to some soft core stuff in a really fun way that few shows even think of trying to do. So with the second season, it’s back to school with Hayato and Ui and all the rest as they have to deal with such a weird situation and some realistic teenage hormones.

With a nice and thankfully brief recap at the start that hits the basics well enough, the show makes it clear that one of the things that’s changed is that Ui is coming across as a bit more needy these days. Of course, needy isn’t always a bad thing but it’s in the eyes of the beholder. But when you behold Ui? How can you not want to fulfil everything she wants. She’s doing her best to be an attentive wife and going all in with him to make him happy but it’s something he just finds unsettling. That she’s learning how to be “adult” from the internet is comical, right down to the dialogue, but it’s so well animated you can’t help but to fall in love with it. Her quest to please her partner is tantamount and she’s looking to do all that she can do, even soliciting advice from friends in a slightly roundabout way.

While he’s all flustered and frustrated about it, and she’s miffed at being unable to do what she thinks she should be doing for him, there’s a cute moment where she’s rolling around on his bed and getting totally into his scent on the pillows and sheets. What’s really great here is that the whole thing gets her hormone raging in a great (and very natural way) and she ends up straddling the blanket and masturbating along the way. She’s totally into it and calling out his name, at least until he walks in unaware and takes her out of it completely. That just heightens her desire to be touched in general and while she may be thinking something more general it ends up getting pretty sexual. Which is great but again paints a disconnect in how Hayato acts with her.

In Summary:
I’m thrilled to have this show back with its upfront sexuality and enjoyment of it all. While anime doesn’t really shame when it comes to characters having dirty thoughts there’s very little actual follow through with it. So having what we do here happen is really a lot of fun and makes for some comical, sexy, and serious times along the way. I’m glad it focuses on just Ui and Hayato here rather than drawing in everyone – or adding more characters – as it reconnects us well with them. This is a wonderfully paced show for an eight-minute running time and it delivers pretty much throughout it.
