The original anime series Yuri!!! on Ice was announced earlier this year and as we’re ever so close to the debut a new piece of the marketing puzzle has arrived.. The latest includes the reveal that Dean Fujioka will be performing the opening theme song “History Maker” for the show. We recently learned that Wataru Hatano will be performing the ending theme song “You Only Live Once” as well as a premiere date of October 6th, 2016.
The project is one that will capture a lot of attention with those involved as it’s including director Sayo Yamamoto also handling the series composition with Tadashi Hiramatsu on as the character designer. It’s being animated by MAPPA. Yamamoto has some solid credits to her name with the Fujiko Mine TV series and Michiko & Hatchin and she’s listed as the original creator here along with Mitsurou Kubo.
The series will star Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Yuuri Katsuki, Junichi Suwabe as Viktor Nikiforov, Kouki Uchiyama as YuriPlistesky, Jun Fukuyama as Takeshi Nishigōri, Yoshimasa Hosoya as Otabek Altyn, Yuutaro Honjou as Ki Guanhong, Hiroki Yasumoto as Kristoff Giacometti, Mamoru Miyano as Jean Jack Leroy, Kensho Ono as Phichit Chulanont, Tomoaki Maeno as Michele Crispino, Ayumu Murase as Kenjirou Minami, Kenji Nojima as Lee Seung-gil, Satoshi Hino as Emil Nekola, Wataru Hatano as Georgi Popovich and Shunichi Toki as Leo de la Iglesia.
Plot concept: The series revolves around Yūri Katsuki, who carried all of Japan’s hopes on his shoulders to win at the Gran Prix Finale ice skating competition, but suffered a crushing defeat. He returns home to Kyushu and half feels like he wants to retire, and half feels like he wants to continue ice skating. With those mixed feelings swirling inside him, he confines himself inside his parents house. Suddenly the five-time consecutive world championship ice skater Victor Nikiforov appears before him, and along with him is Yuri Plisetsky, a young Russian figure skater who is already defeating his seniors. Victor and both Yuris take up the challenge on an unprecedented Gran Prix series.
