The Colossal King Conan is a complete run of the Timothy Truman/Tomas Giorello run on King Conan. It combines ‘The Scarlet Citadel,’ ‘The Phoenix and the Sword,’ ‘Wolves Beyond the Border,’ and the adaptation of Robert E. Howard’s ‘The Hour of the Dragon.’ The wealth of stories contained in this collection are the bulk of the King Conan storyline.

The tale of Conan and his rise to power as King of Aqualonia were felt to be the ending of his story. For the movie patrons, King Conan has been teased and pushed through the rumor mill since the release of the classic starring the Governator. For all Conan fans, the stories included in this publication provide the roadmap for Conan’s search for the Heart of Ahriman and the introduction of his Queen Zenobia. Conan embroiled in a lengthy case to find the Heart plays several roles besides King, with a return to his days as Amra the Lion being the most welcome. Amra was the name Conan went under when he met the first love of his life, the pirate Queen Belit.

As is the norm with tales of swords and sorcery, the uphill battles Conan faces against supernatural foes provide excellent cause and effect storytelling. They serve the purpose of making Conan’s journey convoluted and stretch out the issues with cliffhanger after cliffhanger.

In Summary:
I can’t place any higher praise on Conan. I have been a fan since the first time I saw a Frank Frazetta cover. The lure of evil magicians and a warrior battling giant snakes pushed all my 12-year-old buttons, and I was hooked. This collection, though lengthy, is the most complete compiling of the issues and an excellent gift for the fantasy fan in your life.
