Natsume's Book of Friends Season 3-4 Box Set CoverAs we get closer to the latest adaptation of Yuki Midorikawa’s manga series Natsume’s Book of Friends with the fifth season, things are starting to firm up more. We’d gotten word previously that the show would be a part of the fall 2016 season and now the date has landed through Monthly Lala that it’ll premiere on October 4th, 2016.

Additionally, the magazine revealed that Marii Sasano is performing the opening song “Takarabako” while Aimer is handling the ending song “Akane Sasu.”

The fourth season came out back in 2012 and was simulcast along with prior seasons by Crunchyroll while NIS America released all of them on home video in North America. Viz Media is currently releasing the manga and is caught up to the Japanese releases, which had the 20th volume out earlier this spring.

The new season will be directed by Takahiro Omori with Sadayuki Murai handling the series composition. The series will be animated at Shuka with Akira Takata handling the character designs.

Property concept: Natsume’s Book of Friends follows the story of high school student Takashi Natsume, who possesses a strong ability to see spirits. He inherited this strange ability from his grandmother and has had it as long as he can remember, which has made him introverted and shy. His life changes one day when he receives a mysterious book that belonged to his now deceased grandmother—the Book of Friends. Takashi soon discovers that the book is filled with the names of countless spirits that were sealed away by his grandmother. Not only that—the spirits who have their names written in the book must obey any order given by its owner. As a result, the book becomes a prime target for all roaming spirits trying to gain control of the spirit world.
