2 min read

Ancient Magus BrideWith the debut of the anime prequel series for the manga The Ancient Magus’ Bride having landed in theaters in Japan this past weekend, the first blush details for the second installment has arrived. The second installment has now been scheduled for a February 4th, 2017 debut for a limited engagement in theaters before getting a special bundled edition release on March 10th with the seventh volume of the manga. The property is getting a three-part manga bundled prequel anime from Wit Studio that will serve as a prequel story before Chise meets the Magus.

The anime comes from an original story by manga creator Kore Yamazaki and has set Norihiro Naganuma to direct it based on the script from Aya Takaha. Hirotaka Kato is working on the character designs for it.

The release pattern is going to be frustrating for overseas fans as they’ll be bundled with the sixth, seventh, and ninth volumes of the manga later this year while also getting a limited theatrical engagement with the first one arriving on August 13th, 2016.

Known as Mahou Tsukai no Yome in its original Japanese form, Seven Seas Entertainment acquired The Ancient Magus Bride manga back in 2014 for release. The manga series comes from Kore Yamazaki, their third professionally published work, and the first North American volume landed in May 2015. The series is currently being serialized in Monthly Comic Garden with five volumes have been released so far in Japan.

Plot concept: Hatori Chise is only 16, but she has lost far more than most. With neither family nor hope, it seems all doors are closed to her. But, a chance encounter began to turn the rusted wheels of fate. In her darkest hour, a mysterious magus appears before Chitose, offering a chance she couldn’t turn down. This magus who seems closer to demon than human, will he bring her the light she desperately seeks, or drown her in ever deeper shadows?
