TOHO put out a new promotional spot out for Touken Ranbu back in June and has done some updates with casting and staffing while also bringing out a new key visual for the project. Now, a new minute-long promo has arrived that shows off some of the animation but works to highlight the designs and tone of the series itself.
Revealed at AnimeJapan 2016, the new series was originally being planned for a 2017 debut with ufotable, but that’s a separate project. This series has Doga Kobo handling the animation and is now on track for a fall 2016 debut. The arrival of the first promo previously revealed the staff for it and some of the cast. The series will be directed by Takashi Naoya from the scripts by Pierre Sugiura while Junichiro Taniguchi is handling the character designs.
The previously announced cast includes:
- Mitsuhiro Ichiki as Yasusada Yamatonokami
- Toshiki Masuda as Kiyomitsu Kashu.
- Daiki Yamashita as Imanotsurugi
- Reona Irie as Toushirou Maeda
- Tarusuke Shingaki as Heshikiri Hasebe
The game itself kicked off in January 2015 and was developed by Nitroplus and DMM Games.
Plot concept: The year is 2205. The “historical revisionists” have begun attacks on the past in their plot to change history. The Saniwa, who have been charged with protecting history, can imbue life into objects. Strongest among these are the Tōken Danshi. The story centers around their cheerful lives.
