Original ‘Berserk’ Anime Series Getting UK Blu-ray Release

Berserk 1997 HeaderGiving hope domestically once again, MVM Entertainment has revealed a November 21st, 2016 release of the original 1997 Berserk anime TV series on Blu-ray for UK fans. This comes after the late June announcement of Madman Entertainment acquiring the series for Australian release on Blu-ray. The complete set will have the twenty-five episode run across four Blu-ray discs in its original Japanese with the English dub and English subtitles. Extras include the Textless Opening and Ending, Original Japanese Opening and Ending, Forces Full Version, Encore TV Opening, Paint it Berserk, Production Sketches, Art Gallery, Outtakes and a TV Spot. It’ll be priced at $99.95

Directed by Naohito Takahashi based on the series composition from Yasuhiro Imagawa, Norihiro Matsubara and Yoshihiko Umakoshi served as the character designers with animation produced by OLM. The series is based on the manga by Kentarou Miura which is published in North America by Dark Horse Comics. The anime was previously released in North America by Media Blasters.

The cast includes Nobutoshi Hayashi as Guts, Toshiyuki Morikawa as Griffith, Yuko Miyamura as Casca, Akiko Yajima as Rickert, Akira Ishida as Judou, Masuo Amada as Pippin and Tomohiro Nishimura as Corkus.

Plot concept: In the castle town of Midland, a new king has come to power through treachery and violence. His demonic agents victimize the citizens unchecked, until the night when a battle weary soldier approaches the city.

Covered in a slew of weapons and countless jagged scars, he calls himself the Black Swordsman. The sword he carries is the size of his grudge against the king, and he hunts the servants of evil with unrelenting fury.
