With the end of the first cour of BBK/BRNK this past winter season, it was confirmed at that point that a second cour was coming and fully in the works at the time. Now, an unsourced scan has arrived via otakomu that reveals that the second cour is now being planned for a fall 2016 broadcast premiere.
The TV series was directed by Daizen Komatsuda as his directorial debut. He worked with Jiro Ishii and Yukinori Kitajama’s scripts for the project while Yuuseuk Kozaki did the character designs.
The cast includes Yuusuke Kobayashi as Azuma Ikki, Ari Ozawa as Kogane Asabuki, Soma Saito as Hiiragi Nono, Shizuka Ishigami as Noa Oogi, Mikako Komatsu as Shizuru Taneomi, Megumi Han as Rioko Banryuu, Kenjirou Tsuda as Shuusaku Matoba, Yoko Hikasa as Zetsubi Ken, Subaru Kimura as Souya Arabashiri and Kazuyuki Okitsu as Akito Tsuwabuki.
Komatsuda’s an interesting choice to tackle it as he’s progressed through the ranks, doing a lot of key animation including all three of the Evangelion films where he also served as the assistant director. He’s done a lot of episode direction over the years but hasn’t tackled the primary chair before.
Plot concept: When Azuma Ikki returns to Japan after 10 years, he gets assaulted by a group of armed men and becomes their prisoner. Kogane Asabuki, a childhood friend, saves him with a weapon on her right hand known as Bubuki; a weapon with its own mind. Azuma Ikki, who is a Bubuki user himself, learns about the existence of Bubuki and goes on a journey alongside the companions he has found, in an attempt to find and revive Oumai, a Buranki (titan) who sleeps underground.
