2 min read

Natsume's Book of Friends Season 3-4 Box Set CoverWe learned back in March that Yuki Midorikawa’s manga series Natsume’s Book of Friends will be getting a fifth season with tentative plans for this fall. That’s now been confirmed through the official site that updated to begin the more formal marketing roll out of the property. The MoCa site also updated with a new character key visual for the two leads with how they’ll look in this season of the property.

The fourth season came out back in 2012 and was simulcast along with prior seasons by Crunchyroll while NIS America released all of them on home video in North America. Viz Media is currently releasing the manga and is caught up to the Japanese releases, which had the 20th volume out earlier this spring.

The new season will be directed by Takahiro Omori with Sadayuki Murai handling the series composition. The series will be animated at Shuka with Akira Takata handling the character designs.

Property concept: Natsume’s Book of Friends follows the story of high school student Takashi Natsume, who possesses a strong ability to see spirits. He inherited this strange ability from his grandmother and has had it as long as he can remember, which has made him introverted and shy. His life changes one day when he receives a mysterious book that belonged to his now deceased grandmother—the Book of Friends. Takashi soon discovers that the book is filled with the names of countless spirits that were sealed away by his grandmother. Not only that—the spirits who have their names written in the book must obey any order given by its owner. As a result, the book becomes a prime target for all roaming spirits trying to gain control of the spirit world.
