What They Say
THE BEAST AWAKENS

Yarai is determined to do whatever it takes to save the life of his dear teacher, even if it means taking the life of his friend. But can Yarai actually go through with it? With Yarai and Sengoku facing each other in a battle to the death, it seems like Mami’s dreaded vision is actually coming true. However, they may have a bigger problem on their hands, as it appears that the work of uncovering the traps surrounding the mysterious tower may have awoken a new and fearsome beast from its deep slumber.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Yarai and Sengoku are finally united, but it won’t be for the better. While Sengoku is excited to see his buddy, the rest of his group are skeptical of Yarai. Turns out they were right to be skeptical, Yarai is actually there to kill Sengoku. Yarai doesn’t want to, but it is the only way he can think of to save Kurusu-Sensei. The death of Sengoku is the payment that Nishikiori demanded in order to operate on Kurusu-Sensei. But there is not guarantee Nishikiori will go through with it or even succeed.

Unfortunately for everyone, Yarai thinks he is out of options and he is willing to kill Sengoku to save Kurusu-Sensei. But as a fight to the death between these two escalates, the group back at the radio tower ruins accidentally wake a sleeping beast. Not only a beast, but a horrific chimera-like creature with three saber tooth tiger heads, the scales of a fish and a massive anteater tongue!

This genetically engineered nightmare beast quickly begins bitch-slapping all everyone around the ruins. Without Sengoku to bravely give orders and lead a counterattack, others are forced to take his place and try to defend the injured. But can they hope to win against powerful predator that’s 12-feet tall?!

In Summary
This volume doesn’t have any revelations like the last few volumes, so nothing earth shattering for the castaways. However, the emergence of a genetically engineered creature of nightmares increases the tension level for everyone involved. This is magnified by the fact that the creature emerges from the ruins right in the middle of all the people of Sengoku’s group. Nearly everyone is quickly injured by the beast, and it is only a matter of time before it starts eating people at its leisure. Good danger factor, but I look forward to more revelations about the island’s mysteries.
