Studiocanal Sets ‘They Boy and the Beast’ UK Anime Release

The Boy and the Beast Header Bakemono no Ko HeaderWe’re seeing a variety of distributors getting in on the home video release of The Boy and The Beast around the world and now the UK side of things has firmed up in a bit of a surprising way. Distributor Studiocanal, who has their hands in a whole lot of projects for many, many years, has been listed as the distributor for the film in the UK and have no set a September 5th, 2016 release date for the feature on both DVD and Blu-ray. It’s currently listed around £20 and £24 respectively.

Originally in theaters back on July 11th, 2015 in Japan, the film is being localised as The Boy and the Beast. The film is an original work for Hosoda and has been in development for quite some time. Hosoda is joined by Takaaki Yamashita and Tatsuzo Nishida as animation directors.

Property Concept: When Kyuta, a young orphan living on the streets of Shibuya, stumbles into a fantastic world of beasts, he’s taken in by Kumatetsu, a gruff, rough-around-the-edges warrior beast who’s been searching for the perfect apprentice. Despite their constant bickering, Kyuta and Kumatetsu begin training together and slowly form a bond as surrogate father and son. But when a deep darkness threatens to throw the human and beast worlds into chaos, the strong bond between this unlikely pair will be put to the ultimate test—a final showdown that will only be won if the two can finally work together using all of their combined strength and courage.
