What They Say:
Journey to the otherworldly land of mystical Japan, where oni aren’t the only legendary creatures that actually exist. To save their world, these mythical beings will work together to fight the Kamikui and their evil influence before the dark beings’ miasma covers the land. With eight extremely unique and determined party members, the quest to dispel a great evil will certainly never be boring!

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
With a lot of quick action and silliness with a good bit of dancing the first time around, Onigiri didn’t exactly hit much in the way of story material. Some short-form shows can manage it while others just want to be quick hits of various elements. Those can be done well, but Onigiri started off working with the barest of threads. With this episode, the group increases to three and we get some mildly drunk shenanigans going on and a mission for the girls to accept that they’re manipulated into with tears and obviousness. It all tries to wrap around the threat of the Kamikui, but the show works in such a kind of odd chaotic fashion that none of it really resonates.
In Summary:
Onigiri continues to have some appealing animation to it and some very fun action sequences which takes up about half the episode depending on what you want to count for the time. This episode expands the cast a bit, which we knew was coming, and works the standard journey and growing aspect. I like the look of the show but everything we get here with character and story is simply familiar stereotypes without anything to really latch onto – though I suspect fans of the source material are likely to get more out of it.
