While GKIDS has already run through their theatrical run for Only Yesterday in North America with their limited February and March days, Madman is gearing up for the Australian theatrical release of one of my favorite Studio Ghibli films. Set for a May 5th, 2016 premiere, the distributor has now brought out their official English dub trailer for the film highlighting its theatrical run.
That cast is going to be where the attention is at the lead is being played by Daisy Ridley of Star Wars: The Force Awakens global fame. The dub also stars Ashley Eckstein, Dev Patel, and Alison Fernandez.
“With this 25th-anniversary release, a broad new audience will now be able to discover what passionate supporters have known for years,” said David Jesteadt, GKIDS’ SVP of Distribution, this past summer upon ist acquisition. “Only Yesterday is a groundbreaking classic, and further demonstration of Isao Takahata’s incredible legacy as a filmmaker.”
Plot Concept: Taeko Okajima is a typical “office lady” in a big company in a big city. When she takes a sabbatical to the countryside in Yamagata Prefecture, the hometown of her brother-in-law, the journey recalled her memory of her 5th-grade year. During her stay in Yamagata, she works hard and happily as a farmer and is surrounded by friendly relatives and villagers, bringing up more memories. Their hospitality makes her reconsider her choice of life.
