‘Reikenzan’ Getting Second Anime Season

The winter 2016 anime series Reikenzan ended this weekend and it announced at the end of it that as second season is in the works as well. The series was one of just a handful of new shows this past winter season that did not get a simulcast pickup in North America.

The show is based on the Chinese online fantasy novel Congqian You Zuo Ling Jian Shan, which translates as Once Upon A Time There Was A Spirit Sword Mountain. That work has thirteen volumes so far. The series was directed by Iku Suzuki with character designs by Makoto Iino. Yumiko Ishii served as the chief animation director. The cast includes Tsubasa Yonaga as Wang Lu, Yuriko Yamaguchi as Ōbu, Daiki Kobayashi as Ōchū, Masakazu Nishida as Kaiunho, Kenichirou Matsuda as Iemoto and Nako Eguchi.

The opening theme song is performed by Niconico artists Soraru and Mafumafu, while the ending theme song is performed by Niconico artist Kakichoco.

Plot concept: Since its founding in the year 4233 of the Nine Provinces calendar, the spirit sword clan has been producing first-class martial arts talent. Two thousand years later, the clan, which adheres to the principles of peace and spiritual development, seeks to find new disciples by holding a grand tournament. One of these candidates is 12-year-old Wang Lu.
