Booby Life Hentai Anime DVD Review

8 min read

Booby Life DVD CoverThis release is a title that will sell on its name alone. Really, what more do you want to know about a title called Booby Life?

What They Say:
Naoto, your run-of-the-mill young dude with a thing for top-heavy women, is the luckiest bum in the world. Ayane, a busty babe he’s known for almost all his life, has a thing for him and lets him have his way with her anytime he wants. On top of that, Chika, another one of his chesty childhood friends, has just a big a crush on him too. When she says to him, “My boobs belong to you,” there’s no way any guy with a healthy sex drive can resist. There’s now only two hard things in Naoto’s life now, and one of them is choosing between two gorgeous hotties!

The Review:
Audio:
The audio presentation for this release brings us the original Japanese language track as well as the English language dub, both of which are done in a standard stereo mix encoded at 192kbps. Kitty Media continues to get dubs for its adult releases, this time from Swirl, and that side of the show pretty much mirrors the Japanese side when it comes to the technical presentation. It’s a dialogue driven show with nothing really here outside of the music to give it any life, so the standard stereo mix serves the material well. Dialogue is clean and clear throughout and we had no problems with dropouts or distortions during regular playback of either language track.

Video:
Originally released in 2007, the transfer for this two part OVA series is presented in its original aspect ratio of 1.78:1 and is enhanced for anamorphic playback. The show has a lot of very vibrant colors to it with the character animation but it doesn’t look too overly digital with how it’s presented. The colors are quite varied and done in a real world style for the backgrounds. The transfer captures this quite well as there’s really little issue here outside of some background noise in a few scenes and a touch of cross coloration for an instant or two. This release doesn’t feel like some other shows with a very polished feel, but it has a strong look to it and the transfer brings that out well.

Packaging:
The front cover artwork lets you know exactly what you’re getting into as the two women are here with their tops exposing their ample cleavage. All of this is under the very amusingly done logo which uses the o’s as boobies. And the logo is dripping in white liquid which only makes it more amusing. The back cover has another illustration style shot of the two women, this time handling each other a bit, as well as a few postage stamp sized shots from the show itself that lets you know it really is porn if you weren’t sure. The summary runs through the paper thin plot with ease and with a sense of humor. The production credits round out the bottom along with a very good technical grid that’s very clean and clear. No show related inserts are included nor is there a reversible cover.

Menu:
The menu design takes the character artwork from the front cover and puts it to one side. The artwork looks more vibrant and detailed here than on the cover and it certainly sets the mood for the show. The navigation strip is along the bottom and it has the basics that you’d expect since there isn’t anything on the disc besides the show and some trailers for other series. Submenus load quickly and it’s easy to navigate but, unfortunately, the release did not read our players’ language presets and defaulted to English with sign/song subtitles.

Extras:
This release has no extra material.

With some shows, they aren’t even trying to be subtle with what it’s about. Kitty Media makes it all the more apparent with this title, aptly named to “Booby Life.” Can you guess what the central attraction is? It’s a hard thing to figure out, I do have to admit. The cover art simply doesn’t give you much to work on nor does the title itself. Booby Life fits in with the many other mammary-related titles that Kitty Media has procured over the years and of which they plug in their trailers section. Thankfully, Booby Life isn’t too badly named compared to “Mother Knows Breast” and said boobies aren’t anywhere near as scary as some other shows as well.

Booby Life revolves around the central and only male character of Naoto, an apparently decent guy attending college who is doing well and seems to be nice enough. Naoto is like many male leads in that he doesn’t stand out too strongly but he’s not a milksop wimp either. He’s not bland per se, but he’s lucky that he made friends with girls in the past that want to be more with him now since he’d otherwise be fairly unmemorable. Naoto has managed to just get into a relationship with one of his childhood friends, the overly busy Ayane who works at the college. Through a study meeting between the two of them, he takes things further than you would expect for a guy like him and fondles her into dating him after they have some good decent standard sex together. He figured that she was after him since they have a good past together, but it was her coming to the study session with no bra on that really tipped him off. With the size of her rack, it’s something that obviously stands out.

This relationship doesn’t last all that long though as his other childhood friend who used to play with him and Ayane has come to Tokyo for her entrance exams. Chika is the very cute and outgoing blonde girl who is surprised when she sees Naoto and Ayane meet her together. That doesn’t stop her from trying to get to Naoto though and she worms his way into his place and into his bed, going so far as to push the comparisons between her and Ayane when it comes to their breast sizes. Naoto is in the really difficult position of being attracted and interested in both of them, and having a half naked Chika all over him makes him weak and he gives into it. It’s little surprise where things go from there as he has to struggle with the emotional issues and the girls have to figure out how to deal with the situation. With the setup in the first half and the struggle and resolution in the second half, it’s a decent little show that covers things in a way that does admittedly work for some people. And without someone trying to kill the other, which is where these shows often go to.

Booby Life is a very small show in terms of cast, but they make up for it with the size of their breasts. Ayane has the role of the cute brunette with the serious side to her but with the massive breasts that she has showing pretty regularly because of the low cut blouses she wears. Chika is the outgoing type, long blonde hair, and the very tight outfits. She definitely feels the younger of the two even though you get the idea that they’re all the same age. Both have their appeal but they’re very much stereotypes for the adult anime genre and for the large breast genre as well. There’s nothing really surprising about them and I have to admit there’s not a whole lot appealing about the size of their breasts either. They’re not ginormous like some shows at least, but the portrayal of them this way in anime has never been appealing.

When it comes to the sex, it’s pretty much the same kind of thing. There’s a series of decent scenes between all three of the characters, including a threesome, but none of it really stands out all that much. In fact, they don’t even give too much attention to the breasts for the most part, though there are scenes where they’re highlighted. They just aren’t the overwhelming focus that you’d think they’d be considering the title of the show. There’s a bit of scatological to it as well, at least that’s what it looks like, as the girls sometimes get a little too excited by what happens. There’s nothing too surprising or too exciting to see here and they do the thing I hate with anime shows in this genre by “whiting out” the guy at times so we can see what it looks like. It’s just too creepy to me.

In Summary:
Booby Life is a title that will sell on its name alone. That’s not a bad thing since this is a pretty average title otherwise, though big breasts aficionados may have a different opinion on it. The draw of the show doesn’t do all that much for me (all breasts are good) and what we’re left with is decent but unexceptional. It has decent character designs and I like that they did take it in a predictable porn fashion for a resolution, but one that is more workable than some would care to admit sometimes. Booby Life does wrap things up nicely in the two episodes, but it’d be nice to see a show start where this one ends and show us something a bit more interesting and different from the norm.
