King Records Sets ‘Dangaioh’ Blu-ray Anime Release

2 min read

Dangaioh VisualIt’s time to return to 1987, baby, as King Records has revealed a Blu-ray release of Dangaioh. The distributor will bring out this three episode OVA series on April 27th, 2016 at the very low priced of 6,000 yen. The release is one where they’re being straightforward on it in that they don’t have the original negative for the third episode so that will be an upscale while the first two episodes are working off the original 355mm negative scans, which means they should look fantastic. The release will come with a booklet that includes some interview material, illustration work and some setting material.

The series was directed by Toshiki Hirano and he worked on the script, storyboards and character designs as well. Koichi Ohata worked on the scripts and storyboards while Masami Obari served as the animation director as well as participating in storyboarding the series along with working on the mechanical design.

The release has seen an array of North American releases over the years from different distributors that have largely been reduced to cut/edited versions, making this Blu-ray edition highly appealing even without subtitles.

Plot concept: Four psychic teenagers—Mia Alice, Roll Kran, Lamba Nom and Pai Thunder—are brainwashed by the scientist Dr. Tarsan as pilots of his greatest experiment—the giant robot Dangaioh. But as their memories slowly return, these pilots use their abilities and Dangaioh to combat the tyranny of Captain Galimos and the Bunker Space Pirates.
