The final release week of January was a pretty big one in general but even more so just to see how things are really aligning when it comes to the troubled series Osomatsu. With a lot of controversy early on about its parodies and episodes being changed and reanimated, the first volume did just under 36,000 units on Blu-ray and just over 43,000 units on DVD, making it one of the strongest first week sales for a new series in quite some time. With the show’s creative team also mentioning recently that the series may be open-ended and could go on for a bit more, it’s easy to visualize the folks at Studio Pierrot printing money off thise property as long as they can.
The release list does have some good stuff beyond that as the second Owarimonogatari release has some strong sales while Overlord continues to do very well, surpassing other recent new titles such as One-Punch Man but quiet a efw units. This week also aw the release of the Gundam 0083 Blu-ray box set and that did just under 8,300 units on Blu-ray, making us hopeful we’ll see it released here sooner rather than later.
