With plans for a spring 2016 debut, the Naruto: Shippuuden – Itachi Shinden-hen ~Hikari to Yami~ anime series has been announced. The new TV show in the Naruto universe will focus on Itachi, obviously, but it’s unclear at the moment how this will take place. The potential for it to run in the Shippuden timeslot for a bit, giving that show a bit of a breather, is certainly possible. It could also run similar to how Fairy Tail is handling the Fairy Tail Zero adaptation by running it in the main series.
What it likely doesn’t represent is that Shippuden will end by the spring, since there’s still a bit of material to work through and we’re still deep in the woods with filler material.
Plot concept: The series will center around the past life of Itachi, the older brother of Sasuke Uchiha.
