With too much time focused on the origin side recently, Doamayger-D lost some of its steam for me. With this one, it’s back to the “present” where Daijirou’s coming across as a bit more confident having understood where all of this has come from. That said, he does find himself in competition with Robert and his overbearing ways which are presented in a good contrasting way. Strangely, the show spends most of its time with Daijirou making confectionaries for a grade school girl who had a bad day, but it serves to give him the inspiration he needs to really step up and do things his way. It’s a simple yet tried and true bit of character motivation and building material that’s really blunt.
In Summary:
While we don’t get any big action pieces here, I liked the smaller character material as it hits the right flow in terms of the series overall. Daijirou shows how he’s grown and even if they’re so utterly blunt with it that it’s obnoxious, it does what it has to within the context of both the design/homage of the series and the running time that it has. The cuteness is what wins here and I simply await the chance to see Daijirou show up Robert as he must – and should.
