Miss Monochrome had a lot of fun in having our lead going after the Caramel girls for being too confident about what they’re doing as she microanalyzed them in a way that often feels poorly done in other series. Why it works here is because of Monochrome’s origins as it would make sense for her to be somewhat hypercritical of others for not meeting the exacting standards she comes up with for herself. So it’s welcome that the series actually has a new opening sequence so that our lead herself doesn’t quite become routine and overly familiar. Amusingly, this one does some nice homages/parodies of Yui Horie’s own concert pieces and just runs with it in a cute way.

With the show moving along the concert circuit, they’ve now arrived in Sendai and she’s adopting some of the elements of the area, including an eye-patch to be properly chunibyo. The struggle she has to face this time around is making it into a radio program in time, which is difficult from the start due to traffic. Why Yayoi wasn’t driving… Anyway, Monochrome’s intent on getting there because of the importance of the program and there’s some fun with the struggle, including nearly burying poor Ru-chan. Amusingly, she uses her chunibyo side to try and help and it works in its own weird way, but it’s the kind of completely out there approach that the show has leaned more on lately. Of course, calling in a rampaging herd of cows isn’t the best idea, but it makes for an amusing sequence.

In Summary:
Miss Monochrome has some cute moments here as it plays to some familiar bits while ensuring that it’s seen as doing it lovingly rather than skewering it since they don’t want to offend anyone. The radio show itself is certainly cute with what it does in how she answers questions and uses it for her larger if more immediate goal. The show is definitely trying to change things up a bit and bring in some new things and all of that just reinforces that we’re more than likely to get at least one more season out of it as the anchor for the block it airs during. It’s a fun enough episode but also likely to be one of the less than memorable ones.
