What They Say:
One year ago, Robyn Locksley was brought to Myst, a realm of swords and sorcery, to save the city of Nottingham from a great evil. Lives were lost and hearts were broken, but the war is finally over. Joined by Marian Quin – a witch has, up until now, only known the ways of Myst – Robyn returns to New York, ready to begin a new chapter in her life … This is the story of Robyn Hood.

Content (please note that portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Julia Gengrich has never been the friend Robyn and Marian needed in the NYPD, but now, she was calling for their help. Before this, she always greeted them with harsh words and terse remarks – not something a caring person would do, but she had her reasons; Gengrich was grounded in reality, a beat cop who fought crime in the streets compared to the chaos which the duo stirred up behind the scenes. She was always the one who had to clean up after their messes, never having to deal with the darkness which they faced every night. But now, Julia had a taste of that vile underbelly, and she did not like where it lead and what those monsters were feeding upon. It opened old wounds and new ones which cut deep into her pride and a past she did wish to open again. She needed their assistance, even if she didn’t want to admit it.

The Cabal had their claws in everything in New York City and now the police seem to have fallen under their sway. Kidnapping of children might have been attributed to a cult, however when an ancient witch shows up at one of those abductions, this is all they need to convince them otherwise. The fight might have seemed simple for Locksley Investigations, but when the battle it brought to their front door, it becomes personal. How could it get any worse: they are on the run while harbouring a cop killer, the Cabal is has renewed their search on hunting them down and their home is destroyed. Mental note – never ask that question, you’ll never like the answer you’ll get.

In Summary:
Just when we think that Robyn and Marian had finally been able to settle down for a well-deserved rest from the craziness of their lives, Pat Shand had to throw a wrench into the works! Who would have guessed that Gengrich would come to them, of all people, for help? But to see why Julia became a cop really opens up her personality, though who would have guessed that the Cabal was this involved in New York that far back? It really makes one wonder if anywhere is safe with that organisation creeping around manipulating the darkness. Of course, if they weren’t, Robyn’s life would be much more boring … and we wouldn’t want that!

And after a well deserved month hiatus, Roberta Ingranata has returned just in time to illustrate this brilliant story! The way she unfolds this issue by telling Julia’s story: a volatile girl who seeks justice, to a grieving sister frustrated by an incompetent police force, a disheartened rookie and a woman who once again is looking for the truth – it all follows the Cabal’s involvement in her life. You can feel her pain from loss of a sibling and a partner, all from one grouping hiding the facts so they can further their own means. We can all relate to that kind of trauma, and Ingranata’s illustrations bring that resentment masterfully to the forefront. That time was worth the wait!

Now that the Cabal has reared its gruesome head, Robyn, Marian and her new friends have no choice but to confront this nightmare. But, with their home gone and the police hunting them down, do they stand a chance? Or is it the other way around – now that they have lost everything, what is stopping them from finding the real truth? Can’t wait to find out!
