The cast for the feature film Doukyusei has grown a bit now that we’re on track for the film next year and advance tickets have gone on sale. With this in mind, a new trailer has arrived for the project. Additionally, the latest bit of casting beyond the two leads is that of Hideo Ishikawa, who has boarded the project as Manabu Hara, a 35-year-old gay teacher who ends up falling in love with one of the leads in secret. Hara is most well known for his work as Itachi Uchiha in the long running Naruto series.
Announced back in March 2015 as a project moving forward from A-1 Pictures, we now have a theatrical release date for the Doukyusei film. We learned back in June that it would be getting a theatrical run and now it’s set for a February 20th, 2016 debut in thirty theaters across the country. Advance tickets go on sale next week which includes two illustrated postcards to entice fan to purchase early.
The original work comes from Asumiko Nakamura, a one volume/six chapter release that was serialized in Opera back in 2006 to 2007. It has a pretty solid team behind it with Shouko Nakamura directing and Akemi Hayashi on board as the character designer. Kenji Nojima and Hiroshi Kamiya are set to start in the lead roles with Manabu Hara in a supporting role.
Plot concept: A boy met a boy. They were in the flush of youth. Their love felt like a dream, like sparkling soda pop.
