Viz Media Adds ‘Kuroko’s Basketball,’ ‘Haikyu!!’ & More Manga

Kuroko's Basketball Volume 1It’s a good day to be a manga fan in general but also a good day to be a sports manga fan. Viz Media is bolstering its sports manga side for the summer 2016 release period with Kuroko’s Basketball and Haikyu!! releases. The former will be done as two-in-one omnibus releases since the first series is complete at thirty volumes while Haikyu!! will get standard single volume releases. The publisher also picked up Yona of the Dawn for fans who want to go beyond the anime, while also acquiring 7th GardenEveryone’s Getting Married and Monster Hunter.

Kuroko’s Basketball  (2-in-1 editions in summer 2016.): Teikou Middle School basketball club: an incredibly strong team with over one hundred members and three consecutive championship wins. Amongst their brilliant record, was a generation of five prodigies known as the “Generation of Miracles.” However, there was a strange rumor concerning the Generation of Miracles about one more player recognized by the five prodigies… a phantom sixth man.

When Kagami Taiga joins Seirin High School’s basketball team, he meets Kuroko Tetsuya, a horrendously bad player. Kagami is shocked to find out that Kuroko is the rumored sixth man of the Generation of Miracles. Not only is Kuroko terrible at everything from dribbling to shooting, he lacks so much presence on the court that at times people even forget he’s playing. But during games Kuroko uses that lack of presence to his advantage, specializing in passing the ball to stronger players. In order to become the best player in Japan, Kagami agrees to team up with Kuroko to defeat the other members of the Generation of Miracles.

Haikyu!! (summer 2016): A chance event triggered Shouyou Hinata’s love for volleyball. His club had no members, but somehow persevered and finally made it into its very first and final regular match of middle school, where it was steamrolled by Tobio Kageyama, a superstar player known as “King of the Court.” Vowing revenge, Hinata applied to the Karasuno High School volleyball club… only to come face-to-face with his hated rival, Kageyama!

Yona of the Dawn (summer 2016): Yona is the sole princess of the kingdom, living the luxurious and carefree life as a princess should. She has it all: the finest clothes and cosmetics, the most divine sweets, a loving emperor as a father, and the hottest cousin crush, Soo-won, anyone could ever hope to have. Now, if only her bodyguard, Son Hak, wasn’t so annoying to her and her hair wasn’t so red.

But her nearly perfect world quickly shatters as the man she loves, Soo-won, murders her father and the path to his ascension to the throne is assured. Son Hak escapes with Yona, and they lead a life on the run from that point on.

7th Garden (summer 2016): As a gardener served in a rural manor, Avin wished nothing more than peaceful days along with his lord’s daughter, Marie. One day, he accidentally woke up a demon sleeping in a nearby mountain. What she wished was to have him as a servant before felling the heaven and turn this world into her garden. Avin of course declined the offer. However, not long after that, the town Avin staying was suddenly raided by Knights Templar who supposed to protect the country. Avin was then presented with choices: Will he perish along with the garden and his dear ones, or become demon’s servant and have this world perish instead…

Everyone’s Getting Married (summer 2016): Asuka is a talented woman who works hard at her real estate job, but her true dream is to get married and be a loving housewife. She seems to be on the fast track to realizing that dream… until her boyfriend of five years suddenly asks to break up. She meets Nanami Ryuu, a young hotshot TV announcer, who is accomplished, handsome, and acts the perfect gentleman, but he is strongly opposed to marriage. Is it possible to get along without agreeing on such an important issue?

Monster Hunter (spring 2016): In a world where gigantic, ferocious monsters and humans live together, monster hunters exist to protect humanity from becoming extinct. Raiga is a hot headed but passionate warrior that relies on his brute strength to cut through monsters. Keres uses his long range attacks to asses the situation calmly and calculate the ideal next move. Tolche is timid and shy but her deadly traps are anything but cute. These three hunters decide to form a team to hunt the deadliest of monsters hundreds of times their size and impossible to kill alone.
