FUNimation last talked about the Tokyo Ghoul collector’s edition release back in July when we got the breakdown of what the packaging would look like, which you can see below. Now they’ve made a change to the release by cancelling it due to a production problem. It falls under the canceled/postponed category so it could resurface later if the problem is able to be resolved. According to the information from RACS that you can see below, some sets were sent to retail but have been recalled before any where shipped out.
FUNimation has removed the listing of the CE from their site.
The release was originally scheduled for September 22nd, 2015 and was priced at $129.98. The set looked similar to the Battlestar Galactica set from a few years ago with a few differences because of the box design, but it’s definitely going to be a shelf showcase piece. The physical side comes with an art book and collectables that you see below. Those collectables include a fabric poster, a 60 page art book, a 40 page blank journal and four art cards.
On disc extras include Episode Commentaries, Kaneki in Black and White, Japanese Commercials, Promotional Videos, Preview Collection, Textless Opening Songs, Textless Closing Songs, U.S. Trailer, Trailers

Plot concept: In modern day Tokyo, society lives in fear of Ghouls: mysterious creatures who look exactly like humans — yet hunger insatiably for their flesh. None of this matters to Ken Kaneki, a bookish and ordinary young man, until a dark and violent encounter turns him into the first ever Ghoul-human half breed. Trapped between two worlds, Ken must survive the violent conflicts of warring Ghoul factions, while attempting to learn more about Ghoul society, his newfound powers, and the fine line between man and monster.
Don’t know how to feel about Funi throwing their hat into the “bells and whistles special edition release” game. I mean, they’ve done so with previous stuff but this one seems like they took another step up from their norm (even if it is delayed/possibly canceled).
They didn’t cancel it. They delayed it.
Man these delays, cancellations/postponements are getting ridiculous on top of all the issues with retailers not receiving Funimation releases on time or at all. So many problems recently makes me wonder what the hell is going on over there.
While I agree that it is essentially delayed, the fact that it’s been removed from their site instead of the SKU changed to a postponed date (the old 12/31/32) means that at the moment it’s completely canceled.
