The new anime series Utawarerumono: The False Mask is just around the corner and the folks at AQUAPLUS are going to be bringing out a fair bit of marketing ahead of it as we go into the final month. With a new key visual recently as well as the second promo, the next piece of the puzzle has arrived with the reveal on the official site that the series will debut on October 3rd at 25:00 on TV Tokyo and then rolling out to other networks and satellite providers over the next week.
The recent promo is welcome as it brings us a listen to the opening theme song for it that’s being performed by Suara, whom we learned recently is on board to perform the opening and closing themes for it after doing the same for the past installments of the anime and game. The opening song is called Insecure God while the ending will be called Feeling as if in a Dream. You can check out the promo below for her song from the first series to get a taste of it.
The show will have a two cour run for it for a total of twenty-five episodes. The series will be directed by Keitaro Motonaga based on series composition by Takamitsu Kounu. Masahiko Nakada is handling the character design adaptation from the original designs by Tatsuki Amazuyu and Misato Mitsumu. Animation production is being done by White Fox.
Cast for the series includes Keiji Fujiawara as Haku, Risa Taneda as Kuon, Ai Kakuma as Rurutie, Inori Minase as Nekone and Kentarou Tone as Ukon, reprising their roles from the game.
The first series was done back in 2006, running for 26 episodes, and was produced by OLM. ADV Films originally licensed and dubbed it and it was last released by FUNimation. The Japanese Blu-ray release also included the English language materials. It’s a show I was a big fan of, even if I lovingly called it Underwater Ray Romano.
Plot concept: When I came to, I realized I was standing in the middle of a vast, snowy plain I knew nothing of. I didn’t know how I got there. And to add to that, I couldn’t remember anything, not even my name. I stood there, dumbfounded at my absurd situation. But then, as if to spite me further, a gigantic monster suddenly appeared, a insect-like creature that began to bear down on me. I tried desperately to run, but it cornered me into a hopeless situation. It was then that the girl appeared. Her name was Kuon. It was this beautiful girl, who bore an animal’s ears and tail, that saved my life.
Can’t wait for this. Absolutely loved the first series and the game it was adapted from. Hope we get cameo’s fromt eh main cast of the first game to see how they’re doing (unless it’s set way into the future, alternate timeline, etc).
Several characters from the original series are returning in the game, so I assume the same will be true for this anime as well. 😀
YESSSS!!!
