As the last few episodes have focused heavily on expanding the group, even if it lost its guitarist, it’s been fun to see the way everything has come together slowly but surely for Monochrome. While Maneo has done his best overall for her in the time that they’ve been together, Yayoi is the one that’s really getting things moving for her and it’s fun to see the way the two of them are taking it to the next level. Not without setbacks of course but those have their moments as well. With all the energy that Monochrome has been expending though she has to get her charge up so she can handle what’s yet to come. That means its time for a new battery. Which is why we pretty much get a surreal and weird kind of dream sequence where she and Battery-kun go riding off into the sunset for an adventure.

It has its creepy moments along the way, especially if you view Battery-kun in any way other than the battery that he sorta looks like, but there’s some fun aspects to it in general. It’s like the dream sequence kind of material the show does on occasion to cut loose and have a little fun. Getting Monochrome charged up at the expense of Battery-kun has its adorable aspects, especially the charge coming from his head, and their regular catchphrase together about things being shocking. But it has its drama as well as it turns out that Battery-kun is non-rechargeable! The horror, my friends, the horror. It’s played comically dramatic and as she tries to deal with him it just looks utterly ridiculous since he comes across as a massive body pillow at best. That she ends up putting him in a battery recycling box – upside down no less – is the icing on the cake for the absurdity of this episode.

In Summary:
So shocking.

Miss Monochrome brings out its seeming obligatory weird episode that’s like a dream sequence more than anything else and it has its chuckles along the way. I admit to liking the show more when she’s not the constant player but there’s some fun here as Battery-kun shares the stage with her and is a cute enough character on its own. But it was also obvious where it was going to go from the start so it wasn’t much of a surprise. There are some cute moments and the heavy use of the catchphrase but in the end this will either be a very memorable episode for some while most will end up forgetting it entirely. Especially because of the lack of Caramel.
