With one of the more complicated titles out there, though it’ll simply be shortened in the end, the opening installment to Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Shattered Empire is set to debut on September 2nd, 2015 and Marvel is now previewing it. The four issue series will be monthly as it comes from writer Greg Rucka and artist Marco Checchetto while Phil Noto provides the main covers for it. Plot concept: High above the forest moon of Endor, the Rebel Alliance makes their desperate last stand against the might of the Empire. Though they are successful in the destruction of the second Death Star, the Empire is far from beaten. Now, follow Shara Bey, an A-Wing pilot in the Rebel Fleet in the days following the Battle of Endor. Though their super weapon has been destroyed, Shara will discover that just how dangerous and unpredictable a shattered Empire can be! Recently I’ve started to read the Star Wars comics, first through Marvel’s app, then I bought some of the books themselves. Just started on the Legacy storyline, with Cade Skywalker and such. I know it’s not canon anymore, but I figured I’d start somewhere!
These should sell well, given that they help set up the movie, and I’m interested in finding out about this, so I hope we’ll be getting some reviews of this comic line.
Oh, but I have to say I’m disappointed that the preview images are nothing new, only scenes from Return of the Jedi.
I get the feeling a lot of the stuff we’re going to see for the first issue or two is wrap up from Return of the Jedi before getting into anything new.
