What They Say:
One year ago, Robyn Locksley was brought to Myst, a realm of swords and sorcery, to save the city of Nottingham from a great evil. Lives were lost and hearts were broken, but the war is finally over. Joined by Marian Quin – a witch has, up until now, only known the ways of Myst – Robyn returns to New York, ready to begin a new chapter in her life … This is the story of Robyn Hood.

Content (please note that portions of a review may contain spoilers):
If it’s on the internet, it has to be true, right? But when someone starts posting graphic pictures under #VampireSerial, Robyn thinks it’s a hoax since no one can provide any credible information on them. So, she continues her investigations for a client who wants incriminating pictures of her cheating husband, that is, until he heads into a den of … vampire hookers? If anyone knew anything about this, these ghouls would, right? But with Marian out of the picture, she’ll need backup, and who better than the master slayer, Liesel Van Helsing?

When these two deadly angels storming the place, what can go wrong? After all, they’re just bloodsuckers and Liesel deals with their kind all the time! That is until they realise that the Madam is not your normal monster, but something far worse. After a bit of friendly banter, both sides decide to cut their losses and call a truce, with the demonic mistress giving them a hint about the vampiric serial killer named _eternallyWO: his first victim is not dead yet. With some persuasion to the local police, Robyn learns that the victim is now under guard at a local hospital.

Why would the cops be protecting someone who is deceased? As the continue arguing about who would be better protecting this girl, the lady in blue lets slip that there have also been on officers by this same gang. A gang of vampires? As this new information sinks in, a ruckus is heard in the protectee’s from which a smoke grenade is let loose and the entirety of the guard are easily subdued. As our heroes try to survey the damage, they too are quickly put under control, awaiting for their capturer next move.

In Summary:
This is a brilliant example of why I love Pat Shand’s Robyn Hood! He alchemically mixes the right amount of action with comedic banter, plus when you combine Robyn with Liesel, you not only get double the trouble, but also double the fun! Who else but those two would feel so confident with each other that they would be able to crack jokes while facing down not only vampire hookers but a succubus too? I’m surprised that Liesel didn’t chide Robyn for making fun of the powerful lady with the fangs and wings!

And yet Roberta Ingranata’s artwork made this story even better! The way she depicts the semi-sunny life of Marian and Sam then flips over to the darkness that Robyn chases down is chilling with just the right touch of optimism. The filth of a den of bloodsuckers versus a mystical circle, it takes talent to depict these two opposites so cleanly that it doesn’t muddle the story into one confusing mishmash. You can feel the strength and determination in the characters, through their actions and not just the words.

But the most surprising part of the issue was the Holy Water Arrow. Anytime you have an iconic character, it is only a matter of time before a tribute/parody is portrayed in a similar venue. I laughed out loud when I read that part! Can’t wait for the next issue … maybe we’ll see a Boxing Glove Arrow too? One can only hope!
