One of the greats is making its way to Hulu with the arrival of Galaxy Express 999‘s TV series via Toei Animation. The company has brought out the first nine episodes of the series on the service out of the one hundred and thirteen that exists, exposing it to a new potential round of fans. Toei’s been bringing the series out over the years to different outlets, including FUNimation and Crunchyroll. Discotek Media has picked up the three feature films. The TV series ran from 1978 to 1981 based off of the manga by Leiji Matsumoto. The episodes are free to stream to anyone but those who subscribe to Hulu can watch this show on their TV and mobile devices.
If you haven’t seen it before, it’s certainly old school material and can be hard to wrap your head around aspects of it, but it’s an utterly charming and engaging series worth investing a few episodes with.
Plot concept: In the future, mankind will venture to the far reaches of the cosmos using technologically advanced trains, perhaps the least likely method of intergalactic travel. The fleet of the Galaxy Railways transports countless galactic citizens from one exotic planet to the next, protected by an elite fighting force called the SDF. The elite force protecting the Railways Fleet against terrorists, meteor storms and malicious alien life.
