Seal it with a kiss, kicked up a notch or two.
What They Say:
The story begins with Izumi Hayato running to be student body president. But when a beautiful girl swings in promising the liberalization of love while flinging condoms into the audience, he ends up losing to her and becoming the vice president. At the student council meeting, the newly-elected president invites herself over to Izumi’s house, where she promptly announces she is to become Izumi’s wife thanks to an agreement – facilitated by alcohol – made between their parents when they were only 3.

Having enjoyed Yumi Nakata’s previous animated work with Chu-Bra, a show that many hated but I found could be rather useful as an educational/support series, I’ll admit I was pretty interested to see what My Wife is the Student Council President could be like, particularly as it was working a different runtime of just eight minutes. Animated at studio Seven, the show certainly can work the budget well enough to look good but still take advantage of the runtime to work things out. The series takes place at the First Seifuu High School where we get to see the student council candidacy speeches, or at least a piece of Ui Wakana’s speech where she talks about the liberation of love for students and throws out a couple dozen condoms to the crowd.
Suffice to say, a series that takes a look at sex is up my alley. Particularly if it brings in some elements we saw from Chu-Bra in straightforward dialogue about things. Ui wins in a landslide with what she did, as well as her forward approach and being quite the cute and bounciful girl, and that naturally upsets the competition, particularly that of Hayato who was in the running and is said to have little going for him beyond his grades. Ui’s reasons for taking on this job is one that one can certainly understand as the student handbook talks about the fact that students aren’t supposed to engage in sex. Since that goes against her belief, she ran to bring about a change to the system. Hayato’s not exactly on the positive side about this, but he also realizes that she has the potential to enact some change and his being brought in as the vice president has him thinking there’s potential to do things with her within the system as well.
Amusingly, when she talks about getting together with him about things, she arrives at his house later on with all her stuff and basically looking a bit like a bridge, but not completely, as she looks to move in with him. As it turns out, her parents, which are in Canada, and his father are good friends, though separated by the years and distance. This brings in the whole arranged marriage gig, which his father texts him about from Northern Europe because why not, and that just sets the standard table here. But it’s one that has a decent bit of fun and energy about it, even as Hayato has to deal with this new arrival and the way it changes his straightforward life. She’s simply who she is and that means skimpy clothes, familiarity with someone new and a playfulness about her that’s really fun to watch as it unfolds. But she also has some really tender moments, even if it’s all incredibly forced by the situation, which has the two of them going a lot further than either probably expected at first. Especially since she’s pretty much okay with things sexually – or at least she likes to think she is.
In Summary:
While most short-form series are just a few minutes, this one goes for a good bit more and takes advantage of it in a good way. Crunchyroll is simulcasting this in both broadcast and uncensored versions and I suspect most will be like me and watch it uncensored. That provides a bit more sexuality to it, especially his whole sealing it with a kiss to her breast bit, but beyond that it mostly plays in the familiar realm. I’ll admit that the concept is familiar and at the same time goofy, but there’s a certain quality about it that’s charming, sexy and has the potential to be a hell of a lot of fun. I’ve been keen on this series from the start because of the talent and original creator with what I’ve seen of theirs before and this just makes me all the more interested in what’s to come.
