Sentai Filmworks picked up another series that has long been part of the cult circuit that fans have hoped for with Higurashi – When They Cry. The first season was originally released by Geneon Entertainment but has long since been out of print. Sentai Filmworks has picked up the rights to the first season as well as the second season and the third season OVA series. Te first season ran for 26 episodes while the second clocked in at 24.

No details about their release plans are available yet. The series does have a Japanese Blu-ray release, but the earlier works are all upscales.

Plot concept: After moving into the quiet town of Hinamizawa, Maebara Keiichi spends his days blissfully in school often playing games with his local friends. However, appearances can be deceiving. One fateful day, Keiichi stumbles upon news of a murder that had occurred in Hinamizawa. From this point on, horrific events unfold in front of Keiichi, as he soon learns his close friends may not be all that they seem.
