New ‘Attack on Titan Part II: Wings of Freedom’ Anime Feature Links With Second Season

Attack on Titan Film 2 HeaderWith fans waiting for things to get underway with a second season of Attack on Titan, a show that will definitely break some records when it eventually lands next year, it looks like there’s a new wrinkle with the second film that’s due out this weekend. The second compilation feature film, Attack on Titan Part II: Wings of Freedom, has been revealed to have some footage in it that will link to the new TV series. Since the compilations are largely playing straight with the first season, just compressing things down in a way as it does it in theatrical form, this should mean that it won’t radically change anything from what we had before. But it certainly gives Japanese fans all the more reason to go out and see the film in theaters.

The second film is scheduled for June 27th, 2015 and a new TV series is due out in 2016. The first film is titled Attack on Titan Part I: Crimson Bow and Arrow while the second one is Attack on Titan Part II: Wings of Freedom. Astute fans will note that these are the names of the opening songs of the series.

FUNimation has the TV series for US distribution while Manga Entertainment UK has the UK rights and Madman Entertainment has the Australian rights.

Property concept: Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by titans. Titans are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by walling themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of titans.

Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a titan in over 100 years. Teenage boy Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as the city walls are destroyed by a colossal titan that appears out of thin air. As the smaller titans flood the city, the two kids watch in horror as their mother is eaten alive. Eren vows that he will murder every single titan and take revenge for all of mankind.
