‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Title Revealed Along With First Image, Story Concept

2 min read

Independence Day Resurgence 1Things have been moving forward with Independence Day’s sequel for a bit now and ahead of its June 24th, 2015 debut, Fox did a livestream with the team about it. The event had plenty of press on hand to find out about it and that means we’ve got a lot of looks at the main image of one of the vehicles there, which you can see to the right. The stream reveals the cast in full, which you can see below, as well as revealing that the film will be titled Independence Day: Resurgence. The fleshed out story premise has also been revealed.

The film is looking to largely play in “real time” in a way as it initially cast Jessie Usher as its first new member, who will be playing the role of Will Smith’s characters son in the film. Since this takes place twenty years later, with a little fudging, it works pretty well to do a whole next generation kind of change thing which could be interesting to see how the world has changed in all this time.

Directed by Roland Emmerich, the film will star Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica Fox, Liam Hemsworth, Judd Hirsch, Jessie Usher, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Brent Spiner, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward and Joey King.

Plot concept: We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
