Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Grimmiss Island has been quite the hoot as it’s played out with its multilingual aspect and the play on characters to really have fun with it. There’s been a lot of silliness and some adorable action along the way, but now everything is coming to a close here, at least for this chapter, with Grimmiss having been turned thanks to Death’s touch. With a little interference from those that should really stay out of things, poor Grimmiss is now all about being the bad guy and causing trouble once again. But as much fun as that is, it’s more fun in seeing how it all unfolds and how others react.

With the Grim Reaper having done this, what we get to see is the way that our favorite Volcano Goddess pushes back against him, though not fighting him directly, and it ends up where she goes up against “Bubba Crisp” for what he’s done, which is adorable. He’s fun to watch with this as well as he’s got plenty to say, and with Grimmiss causing as much destruction as he is, and coming across as more powerful than her, it’s certainly pointed at times. Alongside that, we also get Armando making an appearance as he’s using the island to film a movie, and all the chaos in the background makes it an ideal shooting location. Using the two cactus characters as his leads though? That just makes for some hilarious moments with the way they get dressed up to play the part.

Naturally, there has to be a plan to deal with the evil that now resides in Grimmiss and has turned him in this direction, and that proves to be adorably fun as well. Using the idea of a super intense ghost pepper to deal with it, they take it a step further with the Grim Reaper “killing” it so that that soul of the super hot ghost pepper can do battle and return Grimmiss to who he is. It’s no surprise that everything else on a positive and fun note, complete with the devil ending up back where he belongs, and teasing where he might end up next, but we also get a tease of what else may be out there for Grimmis, or maybe a relative of some sort, in the future. It’s an adorable conclusion all around and some cute moments, especially when one of the woogie guys high-five’s death of all people.

In Summary:
I wasn’t sure what to expect overall going into Grimmiss Island overall as my only experience with this team was their Itty Bitty Mask series. What I got was an absolute treat though that played to a couple of different areas and just had fun with it in a way that worked very well because you knew better than to really try and get it to conform to logic in a sense. It was old school comics in a way where you just had to really have fun with it. Grimmiss definitely wins the hearts here, but it’s an ensemble piece overall and I enjoyed all the weirdness of it, from the cactus gang to the priests, Pajamazons and the Volcano Goddess to be sure. Hopefully we’ll see more of this little island in the future, and that more people will discover it in trade form as it’s a great little treasure.
