Jason Momoa AquamannIt looks like James Wan has a busy future ahead of him, riding high on the truly crazy success that is Furious 7. The director is returning to Warner Bros. for a solid commitment for awhile as it’s the place where he directed The Conjuring. Next up on his plate? He’s going to direct Aquaman as one of the next live action DC Comics film. Before he gets to that he’s in the midst of pre-production The Conjuring 2, which is filming in the fall, and through which he’ll get things in order for his upcoming projects.

The film is set for a 2018 release date, so there’s plenty of time to work things with it, especially since the lead of Jason Momoa is already on board.

The film is described as, “An icon for over 70 years, Aquaman is the King of the Seven Seas. This reluctant ruler of Atlantis, caught between a surface world constantly ravaging the sea and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt, is committed to protecting the entire globe.”

Producer Charles Rovin also chimed in, saying, “James is not only a great storyteller but can make action truly explode on the big screen, and Jason has a dynamic presence that commands your attention. Together, they will bring an undeniable vitality and energy to this character as he headlines his first feature film.”

He’s also agreed to direct Sony’s recent acquisition of Robotech, which is in its early stages at this point. No details were provided about that other than saying he’s closed his deal to helm the production, which based on the timeline won’t happen until after production on Aquaman finishes.
