Can Kaoru handle the throng of people coming to buy Mayotama’s book?

Kaoru is an OL you can find anywhere, serious and works diligently, but her husband is a super otaku and more-or-less a NEET. She is caught up in one of her husband’s whims one day or the subject of his concerns another, but the two are so close that it’s embarrassing to even watch them!

With Kaoru working the convention table, it’s fun seeing the way she handles all of the fans that come up for the work as Mayotama is quite popular in this circuit. Kaoru’s the type to take control of a situation and she definitely does so here, as the show dips into something a little more creative as we get the story of two brothers through the eyes of the younger as he deals with a difficult older brother that just watches TV. The parallels are obvious, but it’s presented in such an engaging way visually while not being experimental that it’s easy to really invest in it fully, especially when said older brother comes to defend him from bullies. It’s a traditional story, but one steeped in the tropes of anime and manga in a good way with a shiny gloss to it all.
In Summary:
With the bookended piece of the convention itself and the sales there that lets Kaoru shine, the bulk of it is given over to the story within the story and it’s really well animated and presented. It doesn’t in an outlandish direction or really changes up the animation into something unrecognizable, but it plays with things in a very good way to bring Mayotama’s story to life beautifully and simply.
