What They Say:
“Song of the Fairies”

The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
With the Succubus Eye stuff behind Natsu and his gang, there’s a new enemy in town to beat down on. The final member of the Balam Alliance, Tartarus, stands before Fairy Tail now, having frozen an entire village prior to.

Moments like Flare’s return to her village are some of the greatest parts of Fairy Tail. It epitomizes that Fairy Tail is about acceptance despite anything. It showed almost from the get go with how readily they accepted Gajeel into the guild and then how readily they accepted Laxus back. Flare’s family is no different, and they are family. That’s the funny thing about Fairy Tail—there are almost no familial relations in the entire series (Mira, Lisanna, and Elfman and Makarov and Laxus being some of the few) but everyone feels so close and so connected to each other. Being in a guild is being closer than guys you play sports with or guys you go to war with. You fight with each other, but after the fights over, there’s just going home to each other. And drinking, of course.

But this episode was more than just Flare; that was a mere part. Most of its running time was a party with Warrod. It was fun, but mostly recapping what just happened and trying to gather more information about Tartarus and END. He also dropped the bomb that he was one of the founding members of Fairy Tail, something the opening has already spoiled because of course it has.

In Summary:
Fairy Tail is working toward something greater here with Tartarus. The reintroduction of Minerva serves as a good bridge between the Grand Magic Games arc and this one, although the anime was rudely interrupted by filler. It will (hopefully) bring a nice closure to her arc. For now, Fairy Tail has one monumental task down only to have a bigger one slapped on top of it.
