It’s amusing in a way to see Dragon Ball Super, the first TV series from the property in far too many years, getting a manga adaptation and not the other way around. Set for release later this year, the manga adaptation of the TV series will be handled by Toyotaro with Akira Toriyama received credit for the original story work. The series is set to debut with a larger than usual sized opening chapter in the August issue of V Jump magazine.
The work isn’t Toyotaro’s first brush with the franchise as he was the one that handled the three chapter adaptation of the recent theatrical film.
Plot concept: Reuniting the franchise’s iconic characters, Dragon Ball Super will follow the aftermath of Goku’s fierce battle with Majin Buu, as he attempts to maintain earth’s fragile peace. Overseen by Dragon Ball’s original creator, Akira Toriyama and produced with Fuji Television, Dragon Ball Super will draw on its historic past to create a bold, new universe welcoming to fans and endearing to new viewers.
