Animator Expo Short #15 Anime Review

2 min read

Animator Expo 15What they say:
“Nice to meet you, I’m Obake-chan.”

The Review:
Content:

The short begins with Obake-chan waking up and putting on her ghost outfit and introducing herself to the audience. She is a miserable failure at what she does but continues to do it, wetting the taxi seat when the driver tells a scary (supposedly) story. There are two ongoing subplots through the remainder of the short: one is Obake pulling Excalibur from the stone as well as other swords from vending machines while other people fail miserably.

The second subplot is Obake buying and drinking Milk while talking to her cat (who amusingly replies). The remainder of the short is miscellaneous inconsequential scenes with no central tension driving the short forward. The closing credits are unintentionally horrifying live-action photos of with Obake-chan (presumably) photo shopped in. After the credits role, they repeat the opening sequence.

In Summary:
This was just generally dull, none of the jokes resonate and the lack of plot is a huge hindrance to enjoying the offbeat visuals. Even they cannot save the short from being forgettable. I would say this could probably be skipped over though based on my mood throughout this review I suppose that could probably be implied.
