‘Punisher’ Netflix Series Rumored

2 min read

PunisherAfter some choice words from Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight and some from series star Charlie Cox talking about the Punisher in relation to that series, it was only a matter of time before more rumors started to firm up. But with Daredevil doing well, a second season on the way and the other three series in the works, can Netflix add another Marvel TV series? The potential for The Punisher is certainly there as there is a built in audience – both of comic fans and those that enjoyed the two main movies that were produced in the past decade.

According to Vigilantist, they’re hearing that Netflix is looking at their “Phase 2” of the universe of street level heroes that’s being built there in the same way as the theatrical side, and that makes a lot of sense that it could be built out that way and work with smaller budgets, engaging characters and more gruonded and interconnected stories – particularly if there are chances to cross over with things like the movies of Agents of SHIELD.

Would you want to see a Punisher series? And what other Phase 2 Netflix series would you be interested in seeing brought into reality? We’re expecting some more female driven pieces such as potentially Spider-Woman making that grade, though Punisher really does seem ideal.

The Punisher was origianlly created back in 1974 in the always sought of Amazing Spider-Man #129, which was created by Gerry Conway, Ross Adnru and John Romita, Sr. The character has had multiple series over the years in the comics world and was given quite a strong place back in the 90′s when the violent side of comics were all the rage. At one point he had three different monthly comics. With a number of animated appearances that toned down the character, we also saw three live action films made with Dolph Lundgren in 1989, Thomas Jane in 2004 and Ray Stevenson in 2008. The rights reverted to Marvel a few years back and we had teases that he might have had a certain almost off-screen cameo in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but Marvel hasn’t formally set any projects with the character.
